Loving Unconditionally

Do This:

Tell everyone to go get their Bibles and come back in 99 seconds.

Watch This:

Ask This:

Why did the son not want to say, “I love you” back to his dad?

Ask This:

Do you think it was weird for the dad to say, “I love you” on the speaker?

Ask This:

How do you feel most loved? Words, Hugs, Time, Acts of Kindness, Gifts (ask for examples)

Ask This:

How do you know I love you? What do I do that lets you know I love you?

Say This:

As much as I love you, do you know who loves you and me more? (God) Let’s look at some ways He shows us His love.

Do This:

Give the one who can read verses to read from the following list. Give them time (and maybe some help) to find their verses. After they read, share the supporting sentences.

Psalm 46:1, Romans 5:8, Matthew 3:17, 2 Timothy 2:13

  • Psalm 46:1 - God loves by being STRONG when we are weak.
  • Romans 5:8 - God loves us by SACRIFICING his son Jesus for us.
  • Matthew 3:17 - God SPEAKS his love loudly and clearly
  • 2 Timothy 2:13 - God is FAITHFUL when we are not

Say This:

God is our heavenly father and loves us tremendously.

Do This:

(You’ll need to plan ahead by knowing what you love about each person uniquely.) Read the children’s version of the Prodigal Son (other side). As you finish, share what you love about each person, specifically.

[Story…with your best dramatic emphasis]

Pray This:

Heavenly Father, thank you for my precious family! I am so blessed to be their dad. Thank you for loving us the way you do and giving us an example for how to love each other in our family. Please help us continue to grow in that love so that others see your love in us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
