20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. - Genesis 2:20-24
Marriage is important to God because He created it. The Bible shows us how vital marriage is by using it as a picture of our own relationship with God (Eph. 5:21-32). Jesus also affirmed both the design and significance of marriage in his teaching.

4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." - Matthew 19:4-6
Although our culture is increasingly attempting to redefine God’s design for marriage, the Bible makes it clear that marriage is meant to be between one man and one woman; united for life and faithful to each other; with intimacy and love that reflects Him; bringing new life into the world; and raising children who love Him and love others.
